Stop the Fundraiser and head to mayo
We apologize that this year pain took our priority! But you didn't let us down. You helped us raise $13,070!! We are learning how to cope with pain at Mayo and our focus will be back on track Summer 2015. Be ready and thank you for your continued support!!
THE YEAR ISN'T OVER YET!
Have we told you how crazy this year has been? We would have never expected to be updating everyone in December- we apologize for the delay! I have been in and out of the hospital more times than I can remember and well, let's just say, I have missed more days of school than I have attended!! I am now a homebound student who goes to some sort of doctor at least 3 times a week- ugh!!! But don't worry, help is on it's way! I am heading to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota at the end of January to attend their 3 week pain management program. Things are finally looking up! I am very excited and I can't wait to update everyone with how wonderful I am feeling in February!!
We appreciate that even though we haven't been very involved this year, your contributions keep coming in! We are almost to our goal of $15,000 and we pray that we can finish off our year with a bang! Please support the kids at Mary Bridge and send in a donation today! Even if you are unable to make a donation, please take a minute to say a prayer for me and all the kids who have some sort of health issue and their families. My faith keeps me strong, and your prayers are being heard! Samantha and I will be able to conquer anything with your support and God by our sides!

LET'S GET STARTED!
Hi everyone! We pray that you are enjoying your summer- and for our friends in Argentina, we hope you are staying warm during your winter! I know you probably thought we had forgotten about fundraising this year- and let's just say, that isn't far from the truth! This summer has been crazy!!
As many of you know, I had my appendix taken out in March- surgery number 8. We thought this would be a normal surgery, many of you may have had your appendix taken out. So who could have expected the trouble it would cause?!?
At my 6 week post-op appointment, I informed the doctor that I had pain around an incision site. He wasn't concerned, thought maybe I needed a few more weeks to heal since he went through an incision they had used to take out my gallbladder. But after a couple of weeks, the pain increased and moved from my stomach to my back to my legs- and finally to my feet. After numerous ER visits for severe pain, the doctors finally sent me to a hospital that specializes in Pain Management and Neurology.
Mama almost needed a cardiologist herself after the neuro exam because the right side of my body was not reacting to the "reflex" exam and then when my left side reacted, the right side mimicked it. It was crazy for us, however, reassuring to the doctors. This helped them with their diagnosis- brain confusion (there's another name but no one knows how to pronounce it) and nerve amplification.
Basically, what happens when your brain experiences a severe trauma or numerous traumas (8 surgeries in 14 years qualifies as numerous traumas), it can do this. Typically, when you have a surgery, your brain shouts to your nerves that they are in pain and during 6 weeks of healing, the brain gradually starts lowering the volume to the nerves and the pain disappears. Well, my brain decided that after surgery number 8, my nerves have been in pain more than they should so it forgot to turn down the volume and it is still shouting at my nerves, telling them that they are in pain.
What does this mean for me?? It means that I am spending 3 days a week at physical therapy, pain management and anywhere else they want to send me, trying to reprogram my brain before I begin high school. I missed 30 plus days of school last year and I can't afford to do it again next year!!
What does this mean for the fundraiser?? As for the fundraiser, we had big plans for this summer- something new and exciting. So, we are going out on a limb. We promise to do something fun next year. As for this year, we ask that you support Mary Bridge just because. Because they gave me life, they gave my family hope and they give new families life and hope every day! And if that isn't enough, it's a tax write off (whatever that means!!)

Have a great end to your summer! Please pray that God will heal me before school starts!
Love to you all!
